The 2023 edition of the international exhibition of defence, aerospace and security was held from XNUMX to XNUMX May Defense Exhibition Athens (DEFEA), one of the most important events of its kind in the south-eastern area of the European continent.
Organized every two years in the exhibition area of the Metropolitan Expo in Athens, DEFEA saw the participation of over 350 exhibitors from over 30 nations, 45 official delegations, 14 defense ministers, 13 armed forces chiefs of staff and over 13 visitors.
The opening ceremony, sanctioned with the traditional ribbon cutting, was presided over by the Greek defense minister, mr. Nikolaos Panagiatopoulos, accompanied by his Italian counterpart, Guido Crosetto.
A delegation from Segredifesa was present for Italy, led by army corps general Luciano Portolano, general secretary of defense and national director of armaments, who, together with Minister Crosetto, ambassador Patrizia Falcinelli and the defense attaché , Colonel Efrem Moioli, testified to the support and closeness of the institutions to the national industries present.
Among the institutional meetings of General Portolano emerge the one with mr. Aristeidis Alexopoulos, director of the Greek equivalent body of Segredifesa - il general directorate for defense investments and armaments (GDDIA) - and with representatives of the national and international defense industry with whom the Armed Forces have already consolidated collaborations or are evaluating the opportunities.
With a forward-looking vision, topics such as the strategic political situation in the Mediterranean area, the Eastern and Southern flanks of the Alliance and the complementarity between NATO and the European Union were covered. In this context, the exhibition hall has confirmed itself as a privileged forum for exploring further industrial cooperation in the defense sector thanks to which to enhance the excellent production capacities and international reliability of the Italian industry in the sector.
The presence of Segredifesa reaffirmed the importance of the technical-administrative area of the dicastery as a reference interface within the "Defense System", with regard to the synergy between the Italian armed forces and national industry.
