The US Air Force has awarded Boeing a contract worth $178 million to produce seven MH-139As and provide maintenance and training. The order brings the total number of aircraft under contract to 26.

“Building the Gray Wolf fleet and paving the way to large-scale production is a critical step in supporting the Air Force's modernization priorities,” said Azeem Khan, MH-139 program director. “Maintaining these commitments and increasing capacity in the hands of our customers is important to their mission of protecting vital national resources.”

The achievement comes just after the first production plane made its initial flight in December 2023. With the first production plane currently undergoing further testing and other planes in various stages of production, Boeing is on track to deliver the first LRIP helicopter (low rate initial production, ed.) to the Air Force this summer.

The MH-139 is a multimission helicopter designed for patrol, search and rescue, and transport of troops and material. Based on Leonardo Helicopters' proven AW139 and featuring customized military equipment from Boeing, the MH-139 incorporates cutting-edge advanced technology that allows operators to complete missions quickly, quietly, efficiently and safely.
