Leonardo, through the US subsidiary Selex ES Inc., has recently been awarded a contract by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the supply of navigation aid systems (Distance Measuring Equipment - DME) for the US airspace. The contract has a duration of one year with options for two renewals, each for one year. Considering also the previous FAA order for the same type of equipment, the company plans to provide more than 200 distance measuring devices for the US National Airpsace System (NAS) in total. Production will affect the Overland Park, Kansas facility.
This includes overall program management, systems engineering, design and development, testing and evaluation, training, production, logistical support and site implementation. The DME system will help the FAA to increase the operation and performance of the US airspace, in accordance with the American institution's current safety standards.
