UNIFIL SW: United Nations medal for Italian peacekeepers

The military ceremony of the Medal Parade of Joint Task Force Lebanon Sector West (JTF-L-SW).

The ceremony for the delivery of the United Nations Medal to the personnel of the Italian contingent deployed in the UN mission saw the presence of Major General Lazarò, HoM/FC of UNFIL, Nicoletta Bombardiere, Ambassador of Italy in Lebanon, Brigadier General Roberto Vergori , commander of the JTF-L-SW and of the Italian contingent, of the commander of the Forces of the South Litani Sector (SLS), general Rodolf Haikal, of the mayor of Tire and president of the Municipalities of Tire, ing. Hassan Dbouk, together with other civil, military and religious authorities in the Italian-led area of ​​operations.

The honor is awarded by the Secretary General of the United Nations and symbolizes the recognition of the commitment made by the peacekeepers, as a military component of the UNIFIL mission (United Nation Interim Force in Lebanon). The ceremony was accompanied by the band of the parachute brigade thunderbolt.

Approximately 3.600 Blue Helmets from 17 of the 48 countries participating in the mission operate in the western sector of UNIFIL. Italy is currently contributing over 1.100 units on a "Folgore" parachute brigade basis, which integrates the effort of many other specialized components of the Italian Armed Forces, whose capabilities ensure complementarity and operational flexibility for the accomplishment of the mission.

The activities carried out in the Operations Theater are conducted under the coordination and according to the directives given by the operational command of joint forces summit (COVI), which is the high command of Defense responsible for the planning, coordination and direction of military operations, national joint exercises and multinational corporations and related businesses.
