Ship Federico Martinengo, busy as flagship of the EUNAVFOR operation Atalanta to counter piracy and guarantee freedom of navigation in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean, it conducted inspection activities on board type vessels dhow (typical wooden Somali boats) that passed near the Somali coast. In particular, the marine brigade security team Saint Mark and boarding team of Nave Martinengo, with a friendly approach, carried out visits on board several fishing vessels in order to verify that they were conducting their activities regularly and safely.

After having verified the regularity of the operations, at the request of one of the fishing vessel commanders, support was provided by the on-board specialists to free the propeller from a fishing net that was impeding its navigation. The divers of the Ossalc team and the underwater operations group team were involved in these operations.

Nave's commitment Martinengo, which has been sailing the waters of the Mediterranean beyond the Suez Canal since January 2024, continues to highlight the multiple capabilities of FREMM-type units.
