UNIFIL SW, joint exercise with the LAF

The command of Joint Task Force Lebanon - Sector West (JIF-L SW) of the UNIFIL Mission carried out a joint exercise with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) to increase the ability to carry out joint activities according to criteria of greater interoperability and coordination.

“The exercise reflects the terms of UNSCR resolutions 1701 (2006) and 2591 (2021) assisting and supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) in their deployment to gradually assume responsibility throughout southern Lebanon, as well as facilitating the sharing mission objectives in a climate of mutual esteem and respect" - highlighted the commander of the JTF-L SW, Brigadier General Roberto Vergori.

The exercise envisaged a joint Italian-Lebanese planning phase and culminated with shooting training with individual and departmental weapons supplied and with the use of tactical means, including the "Centauro" armored vehicles in supplied to the Italian blue helmets.

The Task Force, today based on a parachute brigade thunderbolt​, is in command of over 3.600 peacekeepers from 17 of the 40 countries participating in the UNIFIL mission. The Italian contribution exceeds 1.100 units, of the over 10.000 overall, and integrates the effort of numerous specialist components of our Armed Forces, which express a range of skills necessary to ensure full flexibility and operational complementarity.

The activities carried out in the operational theater are conducted under the coordination and according to the directives given by the Joint Operational Command (COVI).​
