UNIFIL: Italian contingent in support of the scouts of Lebanon

Last week, as part of a "Quick Impact Project" funded and implemented bycivil affairs office of the UNIFIL command, the staff of ITALBATT (the Italian battalion of Sector West of UNIFIL), led by the 66th Aircraft Regiment of Forlì, delivered to the Scout Association of the South Lebanon of Tire, materials for gardening, agriculture, for planting citrus and plants as well as various musical instruments.

The ceremony took place in the headquarters of the primary school in Tire where the representatives of UNIFIL, Lieutenant Colonel Federico Boldrin, commander of the ITALBATT squadron group, representing the commander, Colonel Marco Licari, and the representative of the civil affairs office of UNIFIL, Nasser Sabbah, delivered the material to dr. Ahemed Saleh Director of Southern Education and Dr. Mohamed Fakih general director of the National Scout in Lebanon in the presence of a representation of Scouts.

The donation ceremony had its main moment in the ribbon cutting and ended with the planting of some plants as a symbol of hope for future generations, eco-sustainability and closeness to the local population.

Quick Impact Project they are small-scale projects, quickly implemented and have the aim of directing basic necessities to local populations, while at the same time supporting local authorities in close collaboration with UNIFIL.

The Italian mission in Lebanon is currently led by the Pozzuolo del Friuli cavalry brigade, in its sixth term in the land of cedars with the colors of the United Nations, and is responsible for West Sector of UNIFIL in which 3800 UN peacekeepers operate from 16 of the 46 contributing countries to the UN mission and of which about 1.000 Italian soldiers are part of.

Support for the population and local institutions is one of the pillars of United Nations resolution 1701, a fundamental task that the Italian contingent, under the command of Brigadier General Massimiliano Stecca, carries out with a commitment also aimed at strengthening the traditional bonds of friendship that bind Lebanon. and Italy.

The Italian Blue Helmets have been operating in southern Lebanon near the Blu Line (Blue Line), the demarcation line with Israel, to ensure stability in the area for over 15 years.
