Today, at the International Campus located inside the international airport of Mogadishu, he had the ceremony of changing the commander of theEuropean Union Training Mission Somalia (EUTM-S) between Brigadier General Antonio Maggi and Brigadier General Maurizio Morena.
Italy maintains the leadership of the important European Union mission which has the task of developing the security sector in Somalia in close collaboration and coordination with the other actors of the international community present in the area of operation such as the United Nations, theAfrican Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). General Morena, in fact, is the third Italian general officer at the helm of this mission since the 2014, confirming the quality and professionalism of the Italian military leadership appreciated internationally for what has been done by our Armed Forces in many operational theaters.
Numerous Somali and international authorities were present at the ceremony, including, mr. Abdalla Hussein Ali, Deputy Defense Minister, General Abdirahman Sheikh Issa Mohamed, National Security Advisor to the President of Somalia, Ambassador Michele Cervone d'Urso, European Union special envoy to Somalia, General Mikhail Kostarakos, chairman of the Military Committee of the European Union and General Marco Bertolini, commander of the Inter-Force Operations Command of the Italian Defense Staff.
The authorities that succeeded each other on the podium, in common, had words of praise for EUTM Somalia, for their efforts in conducting their activities and for the progress achieved in the formation of the Somali Security Forces.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Michele Cervone d'Urso, mr. Abdalla Hussein Ali and General Antonio Maggi, have signed the Memorandum of Understanding as a memorandum of understanding for the financing, by the European Union, of some projects that will contribute to the reconstruction of the capabilities of the Ministry of Defense of the federal government of Somalia.
