Foreign tourists injured in attack admitted to Italian Contingent Hospital in Herat

Eleven foreign tourists, still involved in an attack today as they returned to Herat from Kabul, were transported to the military hospital - Role 2 of the Italian contingent operating in Afghanistan as part of the mission Resolute Support.

The Italian Contingent's Command which constitutes the Train Advice Assist Command West of Herat, activated by the Afghan military authorities for the transport and care of foreign personnel involved in the attack, sent two NH90 helicopters and two A129 helicopters from the Fenice Task Group, with health and personnel recovery personnel on board, which provided for the first medical care and transport of the injured at Herat airport.

Subsequently the 11 tourists were transferred to the Italian military hospital for the necessary health treatments. None of the tourists is life threatening; the Italian contingent's doctors provided the necessary treatment to stabilize 3 patients and to extract some shrapnel from their body, while the remaining eight suffered minor injuries. The eleven injured currently in treatment belong to the following nationalities: English, American, Dutch, and German.

The Aeromedical Evacuation - MEDEVAC and personal recovery assets of the NATO Command under Italian leadership are always ready for use in a very short time. Human lives of any nationality remain a top priority for Italian peacekeepers.
