Somalia: Somali Minister of Defense visits the European Union Training Mission Somalia

Yesterday morning, for the first time since his nomination last November, Somali Defense Minister Mohamed Mursal Abdirahman visited the European Union Training Mission Somalia Headquarters (EUTM-S), based in Mogadishu.

Welcomed by the commander of the Mission, gen. b. Pietro Addis and the Chief of Staff, col. (ESP) Salvador Puig-Terrero, the minister praised the EUTM-S for the long contribution and assistance provided in favor of strengthening and improving the capacity of the Somali Armed Forces through the continuous activity carried out by their own structures, under the aegis of the European Union, such as the Training andAdvisory Teams, of which the Italian soldiers belong.

During the visit, the minister and the mission force commander EUTM-S discussed the situation regarding the deployment of the "Flame" 2 Infantry Company, which has just completed its four month course and is now ready for deployment by the Somali National Army (Somali National Army) SNA). Other topics covered during the visit concerned the development of the next courses in the start-up phase, concerning the training in favor of the 3 ^ Infantry Company "Flame" and the Somali military belonging to the Weapon of genius. In this context, the minister assured his utmost commitment to support the Mission, in close coordination with the commander of the Somali armed forces.

The current national contribution is about 123 military and 18 terrestrial vehicles, employed in various fields, from the main one of the training of the Somali armed forces to the security of the movements and the contingent, from the logistic and administrative support to that of the commander's staff.

The European Union Training Mission Somalia (EUTM-S) maintains a constant dialogue with the Somali Ministry of Defense, considering the function of top political authority to be among the key factors for success in the process of security reform in Somalia.
