The commander of the European Union Training Mission - Somalia (EUTM-S), Brigadier General Fulvio Poli, met with Brigadier General Dayah Abdi Abdulle, commander of the Land Forces of the Somali National Army (SNA). General Abdulle recently assumed office upon appointment by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
On the occasion, General Abdulle represented to General Poli the need to increase the training of his military, in particular in the field of training front-line healthcare personnel, experts in C-IED (a branch that deals with dealing with threats posed by improvised explosive devices) and communications operators. During the meeting the concept of "train the trainers" was emphasised, i.e. the need to train Somali instructor personnel capable of training in turn, thus making the Somali Army autonomous from a training point of view. General Abdulle also presented two projects: the construction of the new headquarters of the Somali Army and a new military academy.
General Poli ensured the maximum commitment of all EUTM-S personnel in continuing to support the Somali Armed Forces through training, consultancy and mentoring, expressing words of appreciation for the steps forward made by the Somali Army in achieving the set objectives.
The EUTM-S mission, in 2023, organized 32 courses and other training activities, training and validating over 420 soldiers including officers, non-commissioned officers and troops, in the most different branches (health, C-IED, logistics, communications, topography, command of units, operations room operators).
