As part of the support for the reconstruction of the Somali defense forces, the Italian Ministry of Defense has concluded the donation, free of charge, of a package of materials that will be used to equip a battalion of the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF).

The initiative is part of the activities in support of the SNAF, trained by the European mission EUTM-Somalia (European Union Training Mission to contribute to the training of Somali security forces), which are actively involved in stabilizing the country and fighting the jihadist militias.

The head of the Logistics Department of the SNAF Brigadier General Garabey took part in the donation ceremony of the materials - uniforms, amphibians and helmets, who in thanking Italy underlined how these contributions represent a tangible contribution to the reconstruction of Somalia, especially in a moment particularly hard for Somalia after the devastating attack on 14 October.

In the days following the attack of the last 14 October, the Italian CIMIC cell deployed in Mogadishu, in coordination with the Italian ambassador in Mogadishu, Carlo Campanile, had handed over food to the families in the neighborhood affected by the explosion.

The European Union conducts a military training mission called EUTM Somalia, in order to contribute to the strengthening of the Federal Transitional Government Somali (TFG).

In particular, the goal of the European Union military mission is to develop the security sector in Somalia.

From April 2015, with the 4th mandate of the mission, while maintaining the training capabilities of the security forces, the mission will increasingly focus on the component linked to consultancy and long-term capacity building within the Ministry of Defense and the Somali General Staff. This consulting work encompasses the areas of operations, plans, logistics, administration and legal affairs.

The EU military mission works in close collaboration and coordination with other international community actors present in the area of operation such as the United Nations, theAfrican Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and the United States of America.
