Somalia: eighth training mission for Somali police and gibuten forces ended

Yesterday the eighth cycle of the Italian Somalian and Gibraltan police training mission (MIADIT) ended, conducted by the police at the Police Academy and the Gibuto gendarmerie. 

At the ceremony of awarding the certificate to the 405 course-goers, many local authorities were present, the Chief of Staff of the Djibouti Armed Forces, the Chief of Staff of the National Gendarmerie, the general director of the Police, the commander of the Republican Guard of Djibouti and its chief of staff of the Army. To represent the Italian armed forces, General Gino Micale, head of the II Department of the General Command of the Carabinieri, who in his speech, in addition to expressing his appreciation for the work done by the instructors of the Carabinieri, turned to the visitors so "yours will be a valuable contribution, because it is the key to peacekeeping in Djibouti and Somalia, strengthening the conditions for creating stability throughout the Horn of Africa region"And continued"support your compatriots, defending them from any criminal aggression, from any oppression, from any violation of fundamental human rights".

During the numerous training activities carried out in fact, the visitors were asked to try their hand at multiple subjects, taught according to the highest international standards: from individual combat training to first aid techniques on the battlefield, from public order management procedures to shooting ranges, from fighting in residential areas to techniques of search and handcuffing.

The courses are designed to provide the knowledge, skills and professionalism necessary to create versatile and modern police operators, able to deal effectively and efficiently with the threats facing the area in this delicate historical moment.

MIADIT Somalia is part of a broader framework of trilateral agreements with Somalia and the Republic of Djibouti to contribute, through the capacity building aimed at local police forces, to the creation of a framework of stability and security in the Horn of Africa .

The training cycles take place periodically and the latter, which began in September last year, allowed 180 Somali policemen and 225 to be trained thanks to the contingent of instructors of the Carabinieri, policemen and gibutini gendarmes.
