Thanks to an action carried out in close coordination between the Italian military of the Multination Battle Group West (MNBG-W) and the Kosovar police seized a considerable amount of weapons and ammunition in Pec / Peja.
The timely notification of the Italian soldiers of the Army guarding the "Village of Italy" base and the subsequent intervention of the Carabinieri Core of Military Police of the MNBG-W, allowed two Kosovars who were suspiciously around to stop near the military installation.
Following subsequent checks carried out by the Kosovar police, several rifles were seized, including AK-47, semi-automatic rifles Caliber, rifles Overpass, some pistols, bayonets, knives, tanks and blows of different caliber.
During the investigation, seven people were referred to the local judicial authority, of which five were arrested and two were in a state of freedom.
The Italian contingent at the "Villaggio Italia" base, headquarters of the Italian-led multinational unit (MNBG-W) based on 32 ° wagon regiment, is responsible for the western sector of Kosovo and includes Austrian, Slovenian and Moldavian assets.
A task of KFOR and, in particular, of the Italian contingent of the MNBG-W in its area of competence, is to ensure freedom of movement, to guarantee safety and stability in full compliance with the UN Resolution 1244.
