Return home from Antarctica for the soldiers of the 10th sappers engineer regiment

Mission accomplished for the chosen chief corporal Calogero Monaco and for the chief corporal Enrico Alongi, graduates of the Army serving at the 10th sapper engineers regiment of Cremona, who returned in recent days from Italian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica.

The expedition, now in its XXXVI edition, was financed by National Research Program in Antarctica (PNRA), managed by ENEA (National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development) for logistic planning and organization and by CNR (National Research Council) for scientific planning and coordination.

The military, who left in early October last year after a 14-day quarantine period in New Zealand, began the 3-month summer Antarctic campaign at the Italian scientific station on the Terra Nova promontory.

During the expedition, the two graduates took care of the maintenance of vehicles and equipment at the Italian base "Mario Zucchelli" (opening photo) and at the Italian-French base "Concordia" (photo below), where they worked alongside the other members of the scientific mission in extreme climatic and environmental conditions.

The commitment of the two graduates, in such a demanding scenario, undoubtedly represented the expression of the very high professionalism acquired by the Army soldiers and testifies, once again, to the important contribution that the Armed Force provides to the country system.
