Ship today Euro she was engaged in a bilateral exercise with the Japanese destroyer Yuudachi.

During the activity, kinematic maneuvers, flight operations with the on-board helicopter and exchanges of crew members were carried out.

Ship Euro, employed for about three months in the operation, carried out escort activities during the mission, guaranteeing the protection of units of the World Food Program (WFP) designated for the distribution of food for the Somali people, as well as for maritime transport for theAfrican Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

Several “Friendly Approachs” have also been made, that is, visits on board especially fishing vessels off the Somali coast. The "Friendly Approach" represent a very valid tool not only to collect information on pirate activities at sea and on the coast, but also to create relationships of collaboration and trust with local fishermen, fundamental for the success of the operation.

To maintain a high degree of ship efficiency and readiness Euro carries out constant training. Examples are Law Enforcement exercises, which focus on the application of operational arrest and detention procedures, as well as gathering evidence of piracy.

Anti-piracy operation started in December 2008 Atalanta aims to counteract the onset of repeated attacks by local pirates against merchant ships sailing off the Horn of Africa. Thanks to the work of the EU NAVFOR SOMALIA European air-naval device in charge of the operation Atalanta, the latest attacks by pirates were recorded in 2014: a tangible sign of the effectiveness and success of the operation.
