Oman: Libeccio ship in port in Muscat

Nave Libeccio, engaged in the anti-piracy mission of the European Union "Atalanta", made a stop in the port of Muscat as part of the, during which it carried out a series of protocol and courtesy visits to representatives institutional and local communities. In particular, the commander of the ship cf Daniele PM Martinuzzi, met the ambassador of Italy in Muscat Paola Amadei and, subsequently, the director general of the port authority, capt. Talib Khamis Al-Wahaibi.

The visits continued with the meeting with the deputy governor, Sayyid Said Bin Ibrahim Al Busaidy, followed by the meeting with the commanding general of the Omani Coast Guard, brigadier general Bader Bin Khalfan Al Zidjali, and finally with the head of the third department - Oman Royal Navy Operations Department, Capt. Khamis Al Jabri.

The appointments made it possible to see the high support and appreciation of the Omani authorities towards the EUNAVFOR Naval Group, constantly engaged in the fight against piracy in the Horn of Africa and in the Indian Ocean for the protection of merchant shipping.

The 22 in August also, some military together with the military chaplain of ship Libeccio, don Paolo Solidoro, went to the Christian community of the parish of St. Anthony of Padua in Sohar, in the region of Al-Batinah, at 250KM north of Mascat. Here the local parish priest, Father Agostino Fernadis, expressed his most vivid thanks for the food received as a gift, and for the closeness and witness of Christian faith shown.

The cycle of meetings ended the 24 August with the visit on board of Rear Admiral Christoph Joachim Müller-Meinhard, deputy commander (DCOM) of the operation Atalanta, which expressed its satisfaction with the readiness and effectiveness of the Libeccio ship's crew and its commander in completing the assigned missions.
