The frigate Virginio Fasan left the port of Palermo on Monday to join the Second Group the Standing NATO Maritime Group (SNMG2) and take part in the NATO naval operation Active Endeavor until the September 27.
The tasks assigned to the naval units are presence and monitoring, control of merchant traffic and conduct of mine countermeasures and in general to guarantee security for navigation in the Mediterranean.
Ship Fasan it will contribute to maintaining a credible presence, together with the other Mediterranean units, in order to support the campaign against international terrorism through a valid and effective instrument of security, defense and protection of the countries of the Alliance.
The operation, which will be attended by Marine from various NATO countries including Canada, Denmark and Greece, will also represent an opportunity to share operational procedures and at the same time acquire specific skills for the fight against terrorism and the safety of the seas .
