Nave Duilio returns from the Baltic Sea

After 84 days of off-site activity in the Baltic Sea, Nave Caio Duilio she returned to La Spezia on 2 August. The destroyer class Horizon of the Navy returns to its headquarters, to the first naval division, at the end of the deployment in Northern Europe, inserted in the 441.01 task group, the standing NATO maritime group 1, currently located in the waters of the Baltic Sea and the North Sea.

During their stay in Northern Europe, there were numerous opportunities for interaction with other NATO naval and air assets operating in the area: formation maneuvers, refueling at sea with the French refueler We Are and the American Joshua Humpheries, up to crew exchanges which allowed some of the embarked personnel to live a few hours on board the frigates Van Amstel (Dutch) e Meklenburg-Vorpommern (German) belonging to the same naval group in which the ship was inserted.

Also, Ship Duilio it has called at the ports of various coastal states, mooring in the cities of Gdynia and Swinoujscie (Poland), Klaipeda (Lithuania) and Rostock (Germany), thus contributing to the strengthening of relations with our country through naval diplomacy activities and international cooperation. Civil and military authorities from various port states visited the Unit, including German President Emeritus Joachim Gauck, the Italian Ambassadors to Poland and Lithuania and the German Navy Inspector.

After leaving the Baltic Sea and crossing the Kiel Canal entirely at night, the unit then continued through the North Sea and the English Channel, reaching the Atlantic Ocean, where it carried out a refueling with the Greek supply ship Prometheus, currently engaged in the summer campaign of its cadets. Ship Duilio it then crossed the Pillars of Hercules again, re-entering the Mediterranean and reaching the city of La Spezia on the evening of 02 August.

Meanwhile, the arrival in the Baltic Sea of ​​Nave Marceglia, the last of the FREMMs (European Multi-Mission Frigate) to be launched, will ensure the continuation of the Navy's operational commitment in Northern Europe.
