In the past few days, the ship health team Carabiniere conducted a telemedicine link from the Indian Ocean for two crew members.

The ship's doctor and his staff in fact connected via videoconference with fellow specialists from the “Celio” Military Polyclinic in Rome, from whom they received a consultation, thus formulating a definitive diagnosis for the two patients and giving targeted therapeutic suggestions.

This service is especially indicated for units outside the area as a ship Carabiniere which, as flagship of the European Union-led anti-piracy operation “Atalanta”, is currently sailing in the waters of the Indian Ocean.

Telemedicine, through the use of telecommunication systems, allows the transfer of medical information on the health status of a patient to a location far from the health center, where the medical specialist is present. These, receiving all the information on the health status of patients thanks to the use of medical devices adapted to the need, are able to process a diagnosis and intervene appropriately.
