NATO: the Alghero minesweeper operates within SNMCMG2

The minesweeper Alghero of the Navy, since last September 1st, is part of the Standing NATO Mine Counter Measures Group 2 (SNMCMG2), the naval group that provides the Alliance with an essential operational capacity to ensure, in times of crisis, free access to ports and the safety of navigation in the Mediterranean.

The unit will continue operations until the end of November to train with the Navies of the Allied and partner countries.

The mine countermeasures group provides the Alliance with an indispensable operational capacity to ensure, in times of crisis, free access to ports and navigation safety. The permanent groups train continuously with the allied countries and partners, participating in national or multinational exercises, in order to increase interoperability and maintain a high level of training.

SNMCMG2 is one of the four permanent naval groups that make up NATO's maritime rapid reaction force.

At the end of the activity period, Ship Alghero he will return to the port of La Spezia where, together with the other 9 minesweepers, he will ensure the fulfillment of the missions assigned to the Command of Mine Countermeasure Forces (MARICODRAG).
