Today the second session of the training and retraining course carried out within the Italian Bilateral Military Mission in Lebanon (MIBIL) ended for the benefit of selected personnel to whom the protection of the President of the Lebanese Republic and his family is devolved.

The course called "Presidential Guard Special Training - Basic"Focused on the sharing and practice of self-defense, escort, protection and operational guidance procedures ("Close Protection Team") As well as on movement and combat techniques and tactics in urban areas ("Close Quarter Battle Training”) And the extraction of people from compromised environments or buildings.

The training activity, lasting five weeks and which will be repeated in the coming months through the conduct of an "intermediate" phase, involved an initial share of 45 members of the presidential guard (including 4 officers) of which only 38 have successfully completed the relative course. The conduct of the requalification process was delegated to a Mobile Training Team enucleated from Joint Forces Special Command (COFS) led by staff of the Special Intervention Team (GIS) of the Carabinieri and including elements of the 9th assault regiment "Col Moschin" and Incursion Operational Group (GOI) of the Navy.

The course ended with the conduct of an extremely realistic practical demonstration of the level of training achieved by the students, in which - in addition to important Lebanese authorities - the Italian ambassador to Lebanon, HE Massimo Marotti, the gen.d. Nicola Zanelli commander of the COFS, the military attaché in Lebanon gen.Pierluigi Monteduro, Il gen.b. Salvatore Radizza commander of MIBIL and col.Gianluca Feroce, current commander of the GIS.

The MIBIL, operating in Lebanon from the 2015, develops military assistance activities (training and training) in favor of the Armed Forces and local Security Forces, framing itself in the broader international context that aims to support the institutions of the Middle Eastern nation affected by serious social and economic problems - with possible repercussions on the situation of internal stability - as a result of the ongoing Syrian crisis.
