This morning at the Center Training Institute (CTI) of Jericho, the third edition of the MIADIT mission in Palestine was held. The activity comes from a bilateral agreement between the Italian Ministry of Defense and the Palestinian Ministry of the Interior, according to which a team of Carabinieri specialized in various professional branches, from public order to the judicial police, from the protection of cultural heritage to scientific investigations, carries out training sessions in favor of the Palestinian security forces, such as the presidential guard, national security force, Palestinian civil police, general military training commission , touristic police.
The mission includes a 12-week specialist course, which will see 30 instructors of the Arma, selected by the 1 Regiment of the Carabinieri "Tuscania" paratroopers, the 7 regiment "Trentino Alto Adige", the 13 ° regiment "Friuli Venezia Giulia", from the investigative departments of the territorial Weapon and from the Carabinieri command to protect cultural heritage.
The activities will take place at the CTI of Jericho, an inter-force academy, and will focus on advanced training in police, investigative and protection techniques of sites of archaeological-cultural interest: a delicate commitment that aims to contribute significantly, in the context of international efforts, to enhance the technical and operational capabilities of local security forces.
At the inauguration ceremony were present the consul general of Italy in Jerusalem Davide La Cecilia, the gen.d. Ioussef Al-Halo, commander of the GMTC (General Military Training Commission), the governor of the city of Jericho and representatives of the USSC (US Security Coordinator on the Israelian and Palestinian Authorities) and EUPOL COPPS (European Coordinating Office for Palestinian Police Support) missions. Also present were 150 students and 25 assistant instructors, qualified by the carabinieri in previous editions.
The training mission in Palestine, carried out by the Carabinieri under the umbrella USSC, who mentioned the activity of the weapon also during the 15 ° World Summit on Counter-Terrorism in Tel Aviv, it adds to the numerous operations currently underway for “capacity building” conducted by the Italian armed forces in various foreign operational theaters.
