MFO Sinai, Italian and Fijian sailors in training in the Red Sea

In recent days, on the occasion of the 48th anniversary of the establishment of the Navy of the Republic of Fiji, 12 sailors of the Fijian contingent part of the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) in Sinai, spent two days aboard ship Sentinel, coastal patrol vessel of the Italian Navy under the command of vessel lieutenant Marco Pilade.

The Fijian sailors were welcomed by frigate captain Massimiliano Albiero at the coastal patrol unit, Seat of the XNUMXth coastal naval group in the port of Sharm el Sheikh, where the activity of the 78 soldiers of the Italian contingent and the 3 class patrol boats was introduced explorer currently stationed in Sinai.

The Fijian marines then reached Nave Sentinel, at that time engaged in patrol activities in the Red Sea, the Strait of Tiran and the Gulf of Aqaba.

The two days on board the coastal patrol vessel allowed the Italian and Fijian crews to conduct joint training which saw them engaged in various activities and in the management of the unit, both in coastal navigation from the port of Sharm el Sheikh or in restricted waters along the Strait of Tiran.

The commander of the Italian contingent in Sinai, frigate captain Carlo Saverio D'apote, remarked how much joint training activities such as the one carried out on board the ship Sentinel are essential to consolidate seafaring traditions and historical relations between Italy and the Republic of Fiji, both actively engaged in the Sinai peace mission for over 40 years.

All the activities carried out in the operational theater are carried out under the coordination and according to the directives given by the joint operational summit command (COVI), which is the high command of Defense responsible for planning, coordinating and directing military operations, national joint exercises and multinationals and related activities.
