Arabian Sea: Grecale Ship supports a damaged tugboat

21/05/15

Last Sunday ship Grecale received a distress call from the tugboat ALAA, while it was patrolling the Arabian Sea under the Eunavfor-Atalanta operation.

The boat, owned by the Diver Marine company based in Dubai, with 6 crew members on board, had left from the port of Sharjah (United Arab Emirates) and headed to Bosasso (Somalia), was drifting due to a 'failure to both engines.

Nave Grecale intervened by sending its technical staff on board the ALAA tug, working for more than 4 hours and in complete black-out.

While the technicians made the repairs to the engine, the boat's crew were provided with food and water and the possibility to contact the ship owner who sent a support vehicle.

Only one engine could be repaired, but the technical staff guaranteed the possibility of resuming navigation to the nearest port and above all the possibility of being able to use the on-board kitchen again after two days of blackout.

Greek ship has escorted the tugboat for a few miles and then moved away to resume patrolling in the assigned area, maintaining contact with the shipping company that thanked for the support provided to their men.
