Malta: the Italian mission trains Maltese rescuers

The training activity according to the predefined program of missions and foreseen by the signed Program Agreement, the 17 March US, between the Italian Collaboration Mission in the Field of Defense (MICCD) and the Maltese armed forces, for Search And Rescue training (SAR1) of Maltese pilots, on-board operators and air rescuers on an AW139 helicopter.

An Aerosupportor Instructor, from 81 ° Crew Training Center of the 15 ° Stormo of Cervia, he carried out the theoretical course in favor of rescuers Maltese, preliminary to the activities to be conducted in flight together with the MICCD specialty instructor.

The training program provides for the formation of 3 complete Maltese crews (pilots, on-board operators / winchers and air rescuers), extending their operational qualifications to the SAR role, so far secured with the two Italian AB212 helicopters of the Italian Air Force.

The training activity will end for the summer of 2016, in time to allow the Italian SAR component to fold back into the homeland, which will leave the island on 31 December 2016, after more than 30 years of service. In fact, since July 1982, helicopters and Air Force personnel have provided seamless training and SAR service in the Maltese area of ​​responsibility, with mixed Italian-Maltese crews. 34 years of intense and fruitful collaboration, which up to now has made it possible to recover about 300 missing people and in imminent danger of life, and to transport about 200 patients to the hospital in Malta.
