The intervention of an Italian medical officer saves the lives of two Afghan soldiers involved in an attack

During a training activity carried out by the medical officers of the TAAC West of Herat at the military hospital of Camp ZAFAR, two soldiers of the Afghan Army (Afghan National Army - ANA), seriously injured due to an explosion of an improvised device (IED). The soldiers were on board a vehicle during an operation to help control the area against the insurgents.

Transported with a helicopter of the Afghan armed forces, upon arrival at the hospital, the situation for one of them was particularly critical, as they were already in cardiac arrest.
The Afghan soldier was subjected to an emergency intervention. As soon as the news was received, an Italian medical officer, a cardiac surgeon at the Celio military hospital, immediately placed himself in charge of the medical team that operated the military. After a complex surgery, the soldier was revived.
The intervention of the Italian military doctor, according to what reported by the Afghan colleagues, "was exceptional and providential", so much to consider it "almost a miracle".

The "ROLE 2", the field hospital of the Train Advice Assist Command West from Herat, it is composed of a team of professionals, mostly from the Celio Polyclinic Military in Rome.

Doctors, nurses and technicians allow the healthcare facility to express intensive care and post-surgical care capabilities while awaiting evacuation at the higher health level, urgent / emergency surgery for stabilization of vital parameters, surgical and internal hospitalization, clinical diagnostics, bank blood, diagnostic imaging (digital radiology and ultrasound), dentistry services, pharmacy, preventive medicine and telemedicine.
