Yesterday evening an Italian soldier of the European mission EUTM Somalia was injured by a gunshot while he was inside the international compound in Mogadishu.
The soldier was hit in the chest by a rebound shot from outside the base, where the celebrations for the election of Mohamad Abdullahi Farmajo as President of the Republic were underway.
Fortunately the stroke, with low residual kinetic speed, stopped at an intramuscular level without reaching any internal organ.
The soldier, who was always conscious, was promptly rescued by his fellow soldiers and, transported to the base camp hospital, he underwent, with a positive outcome, surgery to remove the blow.
