Libya: no reconnaissance activity in progress. (Update: now yes)

(29 July) - Regarding the news reported by more press sources, the Defense General Staff points out that no naval unit of the Navy has yet set sail for reconnaissance activities within the Libyan territorial waters.

This activity, a necessary prerequisite for the development of a subsequent intervention, will be carried out only following the directive of the political Authority and after having agreed the technical aspects with the Libyan counterpart.

It will be the responsibility of the Defense General Staff to communicate when the reconnaissance activity will be carried out.

 

(2 August) - The General Staff of the Defense announces that Comandante Borsini, already used as part of the "Safe Sea" operation, has recently entered the Libyan territorial waters, after having received the necessary authorizations, heading to the port of the city of Tripoli.

On board the reconnaissance team is embarked, made up of officers of the Interforce Summit Operational Command and of the Naval Squadron, who has been assigned the task of conducting, together with the Libyan Navy and Coast Guard representatives, the necessary reconnaissance activities and define the last detailed methods for the coordination measures of the subsequent support and support activities, which will take place at the request of the counterparty.
