The wounded arrived in Italy this afternoon aboard an Air Force C-130J - set up for medical transport - which together with other assets made available by the Defense made it possible to carry out the operation.

In particular, the Ministry of Defense made available its joint forces which, coordinated by the Defense Staff, through the Joint Operations Command, successfully carried out the delicate transport.

The aircraft, which departed at dawn from Pratica di Mare airport, landed at Misrata airport where an Italian inter-force military medical team boarded the wounded on board the plane that left for Italy. Reception and health care on board was guaranteed by an inter-force team of 14 doctors, specialized nurses and health assistants, all coming from the Celio Military Polyclinic in Rome.

The military device also included units of the Special Forces for security and air vehicles for surveillance.

The request for help for the treatment of the seriously injured has come from the Libyan Presidency Council to the Italian Government. The humanitarian intervention was thus decided which consisted in the transport of 15 Libyans from Misurata to Rome for hospitalization in the Celio military polyclinic.

Regarding the conditions of the injured 15: two, more serious, were hospitalized in intensive care and the rest, who suffered various traumas and were already treated by Libyan health personnel, were admitted to other units of the Celio Military Hospital. None of the injured is in confidential prognosis.

They can then be assigned to other specialized healthcare facilities in Italy.

In addition to the Ministry of Defense, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior and Health and the competent Libyan authorities contributed to the emergency intervention - and it was carried out by putting in place all the arrangements necessary to ensure the safety of personnel employed and under the coordination of the Presidency of the Council.

This is a concrete gesture of solidarity and attention by Italy towards the Libyan people in a particularly delicate phase of the current stabilization process of the country.
