The "blue helmets" of the Italian contingent carry out health care activities daily in favor of the local population in the bases of Shama, Al Mansouri and periodically in the many villages scattered along the area of responsibility of the Sector West.

The external medical care activities are carried out in collaboration with the administrations and health associations of the territory that are responsible for coordinating and publicizing the activity among the inhabitants of the different municipalities.

Healthcare interventions are conducted by military teams composed of doctors, nurses and health aides who, with the help of local interpreters, reach the village clinics to provide advice, administer drugs and ensure first aid interventions.

Since the beginning of the year, 3909 patients have been visited, of which 2169 by the medical staff of the "Sassari" Brigade who on April 18 took over the "Leonte" operation as part of the UNIFIL mission, most of which women and children, people often without insurance coverage who struggle to find free and highly qualified medical assistance such as that provided by the Italian contingent's military.

Assistance to the Lebanese population, together with the monitoring of the cessation of hostilities and support for the local armed forces, is one of the tasks assigned to the Italian contingent of UNIFIL in compliance with the 1701 resolution of the UN Security Council.
