Lebanon: recurrence for the "Pinerolo" brigade

The "Pinerolo" brigade, deployed in the western sector in southern Lebanon with the responsibility of the Italian contingent and UNIFIL command of the Sector West, recalls the 193 years of history between operational commitments and the challenges of the future for the "Forza NEC ".

The 13 November 1821 the "Saluzzo" regiment that between 1672 and 1738 had been the protagonist of epic battles, not only on the Italian peninsula, but also outside of it, with royal decree was transformed into "Pinerolo" brigade.

Since then, the brigade has contributed to writing the history of the army and Italy by participating in all the war events, from the wars of independence to world conflicts, to all military operations for peace abroad, Kosovo, Lebanon , Afghanistan and Djibouti.

It has also been used in interventions of public utility to help people affected by natural disasters and the soldiers of the "Pinerolo" have always demonstrated professionalism and generosity.

In recent history, the "Pinerolo" was chosen by the army for the challenge on the future of the infantry, for the development of the Forza NEC (Network Enabled Capabilities) Project.

A program that will give the possibility to connect every single soldier with his own command, to have, through a digital system, all the information and orders to operate in the field.

Today from the base of Shama (Lebanon), dedicated to the lieutenant Millevoi, the Brigade commandant, Brigadier General Stefano Del Col, recalled the 193 years of a glorious history and at the same time one month from the assumption of the command of Sector West, with the responsibility to manage 3.500 military belonging to 9 countries, including Italy, which with their constant work guarantee compliance with the UN 1.701 resolution.

A delicate operational commitment in a sensitive area of ​​the Middle East with around 170 patrols a day and the presence of numerous observation posts on the Blue Line, carried out non-stop during the 24 hours.

Last but not least, the commitment to assist the population with the many civil and military cooperation projects for the development of the country.

"A recurrence", as General Del Col pointed out, "which sees men and women as protagonists in the present and represents the encouragement and stimulus for the future of 'Pinerolo', in a successful operating model that guarantees peace and it increases the trust of the Lebanese people always in the spirit of its motto: 'Always ahead, higher and higher'! ".
