To welcome the delegation, arrived in the south of Lebanon, accompanied by the Italian ambassador in Beirut, Giuseppe Morabito, was the general Luciano Portolano commander of Unifil together with General Stefano Del Col, commander of the sector west of UNIFIL and commander of the contingent Italian.
During the visit, the Members were able to receive a rapid update on the operational situation in the Italian area of responsibility, with particular reference to monitoring the cessation of hostilities and the implementation of civil-military cooperation projects to support the local population in the development of the economy and to deepen the other activities carried out by the blue helmets in compliance with the mandate established by the UN Resolution 1701.
The commission also met at the command of ITALAIR, command present in Lebanon from the 3 July of the 1979 and currently on the basis of 2 ° regiment "Sirio", a representation of all the categories of Italian blue helmets with whom there was the possibility to collect some testimonies on the work done in Lebanon by the men and women of the Italian contingent.
