Lebanon: parliamentarians of the defense commission visit the Italian contingent

The visit of a delegation of parliamentarians of the defense commission of the House to the Italian contingent in Lebanon ended yesterday in Shama.

Honorable Tatiana Basilio, Emanuela Corda and Luca Frusone, arrived on Saturday afternoon at UNIFIL's Sector West headquarters in Shama, where they were welcomed by the commander, General Salvatore Cuoci.

The delegation then participated in the celebration of the 70 anniversary of the founding of the United Nations which was held in the presence of numerous civil and military personalities from the South of Lebanon, as well as representatives of all the committed contingents, on the seafront of the ancient city of Shot.

The following morning the delegation received an operational briefing held by General Cuoci on the aspects of the UNIFIL mission and Italian participation in it. Immediately afterwards, the Italian parliamentarians visited the part of the Italian jurisdiction of the Blue Line - separation line between Lebanon and Israel guaranteed by the multinational mission - then proceeding to the training center of Al Samayiah, site of the Italy Lebanon Bilateral Mission (MIBIL), where the commander, Colonel Andrea Monti, explained the fundamentals and progress.

The visit ended with the celebration of medal parade, ceremony in which peacekeepers receive the UN commemorative medal.

During the ceremony, Mr Frusone addressed to the contingent a greeting address, in which he expressed, also on behalf of his colleagues, the compliments for the important job they personally personally verified and the pride of citizen and Italian parliamentary representative for the excellent results achieved by the mission which, also thanks to the commitment of Italian soldiers, is a model of multinational peace intervention to follow.
