This week, at the Unifil headquarters in Naqoura, theInternational Youth Day (International Youth Day), promoted by the command of the Italian contingent in Lebanon and in cooperation with the communities of young local people who live in southern Lebanon.

In the presence of the deputy head of mission and director of political and civil affairs (DHoM / DPCA) of Unifil, Dr. Imran Riza, and the commander of the Joint Task Force-Lebanon, Brigadier General Francesco Olla, dozens of adolescents from different neighboring countries carried out artistic and cultural activities aimed at developing theatrical, vocal and expressive skills in general, matured thanks to the numerous projects conducted by the blue helmets in support of the population.

General Olla, during his speech, revealed his satisfaction in the comparison with young people and recognizing the importance of school education as a fundamental and investment moment for the future. At the end of the performance of the taekwondo class and a theatrical scene that recalls the problem of the UXO threat (Unexploded ordnance, or unexploded ordnance) in southern Lebanon, the commander of the Italian contingent declared: "I propose four words that could encompass today's event: traditions, education, acceptance and dreams. I congratulate all the students for their accuracy, enthusiasm and taste in learning. That all this is not only aimed at didactic purposes, but at the development of new expressive and creative activities typical of the local culture; that can increase the sense of acceptance for diversity, rather than tolerance that offers a negative meaning. I thank all Al Bazuriyah students for sharing their dreams with Unifil through their paintings. Keep dreaming."

The International Youth Day, born in the 1985 and promoted with the 2250 Security Council Resolution n. 2015, sees in the current year, as the main theme, the capacity of young people as critical actors and protagonists in conflict prevention and support for peace.

The Italian soldiers, currently employed in the "Leonte XXII" Operation and on the "Granatieri di Sardegna" brigade base, carry out daily activities aimed at supporting the local population on the basis of what is sanctioned by the Resolution of the United Nations Security Council n.1701 of 2006, along with constant monitoring of the Blue Line and the training of the Lebanese armed forces located south of the Litani river.
