Blue Helmets of the Italian contingent operating in Lebanon under the aegis of the United Nations, currently on the basis of the "Aosta" brigade, have completed the project for the automation of the differentiation of urban solid waste and differentiate its transfer to landfills in the municipality of Abbasiyah, a town south of the country.

The donation, planned and conducted in all phases of execution, from design to final realization, was coordinated by the specialists of the Multinational Cimic Group of Motta di Livenza (TV) and is part of the intervention of civil and military cooperation projects for the civil administration.

Thanks to the contribution of the professional services of Lebanese architects and the contribution of local manpower, an attempt was made to give a further incentive to the economy of an area in difficulty due to the persistent economic crisis which has gripped the Land of the Cedars for two years. In this context, the ecological perspective of respect for the environment, a priority in this particular period, was one of the incentives for the realization of the project by the peacekeepers Italians, because the protection of the territory is one of the particularly felt aspects of the UN mission in Lebanon.

Furthermore, in the intervention sector related to health and support to the population for the supply of essential goods and first necessities, medical instruments, sanitary and dental equipment were donated to the Qallawiyah municipality clinic and foodstuffs were delivered to the orphanage of the town of Tibnin.

In the same days, teaching aids and school stationery materials were then delivered to the primary school of Rumaysh, donated by the "Santa Chiara d'Assisi" nursery and primary school of Avellino, which arrived in Lebanon thanks to the personnel of the 232nd broadcasting regiment , stationed in the same Campanian city and currently under the Italian contingent in Lebanon.

The Italian mission in Lebanon led by the "Aosta" mechanized brigade, in its third mandate in the Land of the Cedars with the colors of the United Nations, has the responsibility of West Sector of UNIFIL under the command of Brigadier General Giuseppe Bertoncello, in which 3.800 Blue Helmets operate from 16 of the 48 countries contributing to the UN mission and which include over 1.000 Blue Helmets Italian.

The activities carried out in the Operative Theater are conducted under the coordination and according to the directives given by the operational command of interforce forces (COVI).

COVI is the staff body of the Chief of Defense Staff, responsible for planning, coordinating and directing military operations, national and multinational joint exercises and related activities.
