With a greeting address to the Italian personnel employed in the UNIFIL mission, the two-day visit to Lebanon of Corps General Marco Bertolini, commander of the Interoperable Summit Operations Command (COI).
On Tuesday afternoon at the UNIFIL Headquarters, General Bertolini was welcomed by thehead of mission e force commander, general of division Luciano Portolano with whom he was entertained for a limited interview.
In particular, the General Portolano, in taking stock of the situation, has drawn an analysis of the operational framework in which the mission moves with a careful look at the recent developments of the delicate internal and regional balances.
The visit continued, the next day, with a helicopter overflight Blue Line and with a visit to the Sheeba area, a crossroads between Syria, Lebanon and Israel, and often a source of tensions within the UNIFIL operation area.
Subsequently, the commander of the IOC went to Shama, at the command of the national force - currently based on the "Taurinense" alpine brigade - to meet the Italian militias operating under the orders of Brigadier General Franco Federici, who was entrusted with the West sector of UNIFIL.
At the end of the visit, General Bertolini said he was very satisfied with the work done by the Italian peacekeepers who, with their presence, contribute to the stabilization process of the area, creating the conditions for a stable and lasting peace.
