Lebanon: the Army Chief of Staff meets the Italian military

The Army Chief of Staff, Corps General Danilo Errico, met the Italian Army soldiers deployed in Lebanon.

During his speech, the Army Chief of Staff took the opportunity to thank all the men and women of the contingent for what they do daily. General Errico recalled how the great professionalism of our soldiers puts them in a position to always perform, in an exemplary manner, the task assigned, even in extremely delicate areas such as that of South Lebanon.

Italy is deployed in the area of ​​operations in southern Lebanon with about 1.100 soldiers, currently based on the Folgore Paratrooper Brigade base, who are the main component of the command of the West Sector of the UNIFIL mission under the command of Brigadier General Rodolfo Sganga.

In Shama there is also the staff of the command of the bilateral MIBIL mission, in charge of training the Lebanese armed forces, which to date, in addition to the prestigious task of forming the guard of the President of the Lebanese Republic, performs about 50 courses per year of training for security forces.

At the UNIFIL mission command in Naquora Italy is present with about 100 military of the task force of ITALAIR of which almost 50 men constitute the operating flight group. There task force ITALAIR is present in Lebanon since 1978. It is equipped with 6 helicopters AB 212 and with its flight crews has, to date, almost 40.000 hours of flight in reconnaissance missions, transportation and emergencies or medical evacuations.

The blue helmets have the task of guaranteeing an effective and lasting deployment of the Lebanese armed forces, monitoring that the area of ​​operations, which occupies all of south Lebanon to the northern edge of the city of Tire, is not used for hostile activities of any kind. and to ensure the security and freedom of movement of United Nations personnel, humanitarian workers and to protect the civilian population that is likely to be under the imminent threat of physical violence.
