Lebanon: the Italian military teach relief

The basic training course for military rescuers (Basic and Combat Medical Care) organized by the Italian contingent of UNIFIL in favor of the Lebanese armed forces and the military of foreign contingents operating in the ranks of the Sector West.

The Italian doctors and nurses of the Shama base held two days of theoretical lessons and practical activities focused on the treatment of combat injuries and the procedures for clearing the wounded.

Notions that play a fundamental role in the survival of military personnel in cases of real necessity and that course-goers have put into practice treating, in simulated contexts, cases of arterial and venous bleeding through the use of haemostatic bandages and tourniquet.

The participants also tried their hand at perfecting the techniques of immobilization of fractured limbs, spinalization of the patient, management of the airways and cardiopulmonary resuscitation through cardiac massage.

All the objectives of the course were reached, including the sharing of new professional experiences and the standardization of health procedures useful for increasing interoperability and coordination on the ground between Sector West units and the Lebanese armed forces.
