The "Blue Helmets" of the Italian UNIFIL contingent donate clothing and toys to the "Imam Sadr foundation" of Tire.

The foundation, born in the 1963, offers free support to the weaker sections of the local community, regardless of religion and belief, in the field of health and education, especially towards women and many young people, many of whom were orphaned after the conflict with Israel in the 2006.

The initiative falls within the framework of the civil-military cooperation projects of the Italian contingent and was possible "thanks to the solidarity of some Rotary club of Sardinia and the Lions club of Cagliari ", said Colonel Enrico Rosa, commander of Italbatt, the maneuvering unit based on 151 ° infantry regiment of the" Sassari "Brigade.

"It was a great opportunity for our soldiers too," added Colonel Rosa, who pointed out that this kind of event "constitutes the cornerstone of the work that UNIFIL intends to bequeath to future generations, especially the most needy in South Lebanon ”.

Words of appreciation were expressed by the director general of the Nayad Sharafeldine foundation "for the proximity of the Blue Helmets Italians and the nobility of a gesture that is priceless and that for years has continued in the sign of a generous fraternity of intent ”.

Assistance to the Lebanese people, together with monitoring of the cessation of hostilities and support for the Lebanese armed forces, is one of the tasks assigned to the Italian contingent of UNIFIL in compliance with the UN Security Council's 1701 resolution.
