Position errors, but more commonly errors of identification: they are those that characterize the friendly fire, that is the situation in which the soldiers or the means come to be under the fire of their own batteries or of the allied ones. To prevent this from happening and to control air support to the land units, the 1 ° Advanced APEFP Course - Air Power Employment and Fratricide Prevention - of the UNIFIL Italian Contingent in favor of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) was concluded in Lebanon.

Numerous theoretical and practical activities, all preparatory to driving operations support aircraft, conducted by qualified experts J – TAC (Joint Terminal Attack Controller) of 9 ° Alpini Regiment and who qualified five Lebanese army teams.

Theoretical lessons, based on radio procedures and the study of topographic maps, were followed by practical exercises at a tactical level, aimed at the study of the mission and the operating environment, at the standardization of the Command and Control procedures with the third aerial dimension, at the control units on the ground during on-foot and vehicular patrols. The teams were able to obtain the APEFP qualification, after demonstrating their skills in a joint exercise with their instructors, in which they exploited the aerial capabilities of the Lebanese air force rotary wing units by engaging in air support during the simulation of operational scenarios.

The course is part of the wider support program for the Lebanese Armed Forces and has engaged the Italian blue helmets of the Taurinense in numerous joint training activities with the 5 ^ Brigade, a LAF unit present in the Sector West area of responsibility. The ultimate goal is to achieve total operational capacity south of the Litani river.
