Lebanon: the Italian blue helmets organize a martial arts course for disabled children

The first lesson of Karate was conducted in the Western Sector of UNIFIL as an Italian guide, by the instructors of the Military Combat Method and Technical Teachers of the FIJLKAM Martial disciplines of the Italian contingent, in favor of over 50 children with disabilities at the Mosan Center in Burj Ash Shamaly (Tire).

The initiative, started in recent days, is only the first of a cycle that will see UNIFIL's Italian peacekeepers in the coming months. The project will in fact be extended to the public schools of Dibil, Al Duhayra, Al Naqoura. The course will be open to students from 4 to 12 years, with groups composed on average by 20 students, and will be articulated on a weekly lesson of 1 now, starting from 19 December 2017, until the end of May 2018.

The sport of Karate, a martial art of Japanese origins, currently an Olympic sport and complete athletic practice that will be present at the next Tokyo 2020 Olympics. For youth activities from 4 to 12 years old, it focuses on the educational development of children, motor intelligence and physical training, improving his behavior, attention and learning skills as well as cognitive and physical abilities to accompany him until the entrance of the most specific competitive activities.

The project will also include self-defense courses for girls from the public school in Tire.

The Personal Defense for girls is a psychological and training practice that, in addition to promoting a balanced development of the body and the technician of those who exercise it, is an excellent way to build a strong female personality aware of their abilities.
