Lebanon: Italian blue helmets inaugurate a sports facility on the Tyrrhenian seafront

This weekend was inaugurated by the Italian contingent in Lebanon, a sports complex at the entrance to the city of Tire.

The ceremony was attended by the commander of the Joint Task Force - Lebanon, Brigadier General Francesco Olla, who cut the ribbon that marks the end of the works, in the presence of the local authorities.

"My wishes to all those who will use these facilities; for the city of Tire, which can handle it to the best; so that kids can enjoy it at their best, spending hours and hours of healthy sports and sharing their values."Said the commander of the Italian contingent in the Land of Cedars with the operation" Leonte XXII ", currently based on" Granatieri di Sardegna "brigade.

In this context, the mayor of Tire, ing. Dbouk, made a gift to the commander of the West Sector the keys of the ancient Phoenician city and honorary citizenship, reflecting the strong relationship of collaboration matured in the last six months.

After the ribbon cutting, the commander of the JTF-L has given the mayor of Tiro and the president of the team of Tadamon, football club of the highest Lebanese series, of the shirts of the US Avellino, from the donation made to the Italian blue helmets for their mission. Finally, a friendly match took place between a representation of ITALBATT, the unit of maneuver of the peacekeepers Italians, and the municipal police of Tiro.

The construction of the football fields on the waterfront of the city, famous for its historical and artistic heritage, is part of a larger area qualification project. Recently, in fact, the municipality of Tire has inaugurated, alongside the Italian blue helmets, the park adjacent to the soccer fields thanks to the "Cooperazione Italiana" which acts as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and in close cooperation with the embassy d 'Italy in Lebanon, demonstrating the versatility and capacity of the Country System.

The inaugurated work, along with many others who are interested in the lots of the area, contributes significantly to the creation of new jobs thanks to the recruitment by the municipality of personnel responsible for the management and preservation of the goods.

The activity is part of the many projects developed for the local population by CIMIC personnel (Civil and Military Cooperation), as provided for in UN Security Council Resolution No. 1701 of 2006.
