Lebanon: Italian Blue helmets engaged in "Angel Rescue"

The Italian blue helmets of the Sector West of UNIFIL took part in the Emergency Medical Exhumation Exercise (CASEVAC) "Angel Rescue 2016" operating in perfect sync with the Finnish and Irish contingents operating in the same sector.

The exercise is proposed cyclically in order to maintain a high level of preparation of the individual contingents in case of real evacuation of UNIFIL blue helmets and civilian personnel; numerous UNIFIL structures have been involved in the various phases of the “Angel Rescue” which on these occasions implement and synchronize the coordination of interventions in compliance with the univocal procedure to be implemented in the event of serious operational medical emergency situations.

The hypothesis from which the action was developed in fact, was that of the explosion of an improvised bomb in the area of ​​operations, which was followed by the entire chain of alarm, intervention, securing the area, evacuation of personnel affected .

The Italian blue helmets took part in the exercise with units of the unit in Sector Reserve (Sector Mobile Reserve - SMR) based on Nice cavalry (1st), with a team for the search and detection of explosives (IEDD) ​​supported by specialized dog units included in the combat support battalion on the basis of the command department and tactical supports Taurinense.

The exercise ended with the landing of the Italian helicopter AB-212 Task Force Italair at the base of Naqoura, where the most seriously injured was immediately transported after his recovery at the landing of the Korean contingent, the closest to the area of ​​the explosion.
