Lebanon: medical evacuation by "ITALAIR"

The staff of the "ITALAIR" Task Force, based in southern Lebanon, carried out an air evacuation mission for a seriously ill French soldier.

Received the alert from the Mission Air Operation Center of UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon), the AB 212 helicopter of the Italian Army, with on board the team French aeromedico, took off in six minutes for the French UN base where the soldier is serving and where he had been found to have significant neurological problems. After boarding the patient, the crew reached the San Geroge Hospital in Beirut where the French soldier was disembarked to receive the necessary treatment.

La Task Force "ITALAIR", composed of the flight crews of the Army Aviation and a crew of the Italian Navy and one of the Italian Air Force, operates in Lebanon from the 1979, resulting in the most veteran unit at the service of the United Nations.

Emergency medical transport is one of the most important services carried out by the Italian military in Naqoura throughout the Operations Area. The flight crews guarantee every day, 24 hours a day, a helicopter ready for take-off in 24 minutes for this purpose and a second helicopter with the same characteristics of readiness for various tasks, carrying out reconnaissance, patrolling and transport missions daily.

In the 37 years of service, "ITALAIR" has carried out more than 39.000 flight hours in the skies of Lebanon and Israel, carrying over 1700 transports of wounded or seriously ill.
