Lebanon: fire drill of Italian "blue helmets" with the Lebanese armed forces

(To UNIFIL)
29/09/16

An important joint exercise between the Italian "blue helmets" and the Lebanese armed forces ended today in the Al Hinnyia polygon in southern Lebanon.

The exercise, dynamic in focus in an operational context characterized by maximum realism, is the first of its kind to be conceived, organized and conducted with the Lebanese Armed Forces by a contingent of UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon), the United Nations Interposition Force deployed on the border with Israel.

Today's activity, planned following an intensive training cycle, aimed to test the technical-tactical procedures developed and shared between the Italbatt peacekeepers, the 151-based infantry regiment "Sassari", and green caps of the 6 reactionary regiment of the Lebanese armed forces.

In this context, the units carried out at patrol level simulated the procedures to be adopted in response to a direct attack by unconventional hostile forces, in order to acquire the necessary automatisms that allow the best possible management of crisis situations by resorting to measures of immediate responses commensurate with the threat level, respectful of the rules of engagement and in total safety.

The exercise represents the first step in the development of further training moments between the Italian contingent of UNIFIL and the Lebanese armed forces that are as close as possible to the conduct of future joint operational activities.
