Four latest generation lung ventilators are added to the machinery already present in the resuscitation and pulmonology departments of the hospitals of the municipality of Tire, some of the main health centers in Southern Lebanon most involved in assisting the local population affected by Coronavirus. .

È the response of the Italian contingent of Unifil, led by the “Sassari” brigade since 27 July, to the appeal launched by the director of public hospitals in Tiro Mohamad Hamade to deal with the Coronavirus emergency which has already registered numerous victims in Lebanon.

"According to the data provided by the Ministry of Public Health, the total cases of positive Covid-19 ascertained since the beginning of the health emergency are increasing significantly, even more than in the past", explains the mayor of Tire, Hassan Mohammed Dabouq. "Therefore we thank the Italian contingent of Unifil who immediately moved for this important donation that will allow the creation of two additional new stations strictly necessary and indispensable for the management of patients suffering from Coronavirus".

"These equipment will allow us to modernize and enlarge the intensive care shock room of our hospitals which during the Covid emergency is the heart of resuscitation activities", specifies the Qaemaqam of Tire Mohammed Ali Jaffal. "We will finally be able to count on a department ready to respond to the emergency-urgency needs of the territory".

Regarding the difficult economic situation that the country is experiencing, General Andrea Di Stasio, commander of the West sector of Unifil, stressed that the Italian contingent, in addition to guaranteeing the stability of this crucial area for the balance of the Middle East, “Will continue to assist the Lebanese Armed Forces and to support the local population in this difficult time. I want the Italian contingent to be close to the Lebanese population in this crucial moment of political, economic and health crisis. Right now, with the facts, we must fulfill the 'perpetual' UN peacekeeping mission ".

The donation of lung ventilators, entirely financed with Italian funds, is part of the civil-military cooperation projects that the Italian contingent has been carrying out for years to guarantee assistance to the Lebanese population who, together with monitoring the cessation of hostilities and support to the local Armed Forces, is one of the main tasks assigned to the Italian contingent of Unifil in compliance with resolution 1701 of the UN Security Council.
