Lebanon: UN delegation visiting Sector West

A UN delegation from New York paid a visit to UNIFIL's Sector West on Saturday.

General Ugo Cillo, commander of the Italian Sector and Contingent in Lebanon, welcomed the high officials at Shama headquarters.

The delegation, accompanied by the Force Commander of UNIFIL, General Michael Beary and led by El Gassim Wane, assistant to the UN Secretary General for the peacekeeping operations, has the task of providing for the strategic review of UNIFIL (strategic review) according to the provisions of the 2305 Resolution of the August 2016 of the United Nations Security Council, of which Italy is also a non-permanent member for this year.

The officials were able to receive an update on the activities conducted by the Sector West and on the developments of the mission in the specific area.

The current mission in Lebanon is led by the cavalry brigade "Pozzuolo del Friuli" which since last October has assumed command of the Sector West to whose dependencies, in addition to the Italian contingent, there are those of: Armenia, Brunei, Estonia, Finland, Ghana , South Korea, Malaysia, Slovenia and Tanzania.
