A joint exercise by Lebanese military and blue helmets, concluded today in Shama, sealed the end of the CIS (Computer Information System) course, carried out on the initiative of the Italian contingent in favor of the personnel of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF - Lebanese Armed Forces) and the foreign contingents of Sector West.
The course was directed and conducted by the specialists of the 232 Trasmissioni Regiment of Avellino, which supports the Taurinense Alpine Brigade deployed in Lebanon and aimed at completing the training and specialist skills of the Lebanese military communications officers. This had been the need advanced by those responsible for training LAF commands in the western sector, and it was an opportunity to standardize the use of common radio procedures to be used during joint operational activities, carried out by UNIFIL contingents with the Lebanese armed forces.
Participants followed numerous theoretical and practical lessons on radio procedures and the communication systems used in joint patrols. In particular, the use of common procedures and standard messages necessary to overcome linguistic difficulties was deepened. In this regard, it was essential to deepen the phonetic alphabet and operational English used in radio communications, aspects that allowed the Lebanese military and the blue helmets of the various contingents of the western sector to make an international radio jersey during the final exercise of the course.
The improvement of the operational communications is a fundamental aspect, necessary to make the joint activities with the LAF more and more effective and to continue to concretely support the Lebanese armed forces as required by the mandate of the UNIFIL mission. On more than 220 daily operating activities carried out by the Taurinense-led Sector West, about 10% are conducted jointly with the Lebanese Armed Forces.
