Lebanon: fire course for the Italian blue helmets of the Sector West

Fire fighting training ended today in Naqoura, in favor of the Italian and foreign personnel of the Sector West, currently based on the "Friuli" Aircraft Brigade under the orders of General Salvatore Cuoci.

The two-day course, held by specialized personnel of the Fire Brigade of UNIFIL stationed in the headquarters of Naqoura, born following the numerous fires that occurred during the summer along the Blue Line, often also involving mined areas: more and more specific capabilities are required of the firefighting teams present within the bases of the multinational force, in order to allow an effective support of the local firefighters heavily engaged by these situations, in the delicate area south of the Litani river.

Participants followed theoretical lessons on equipment and tools provided, on how to extinguish fires of various kinds and on messages to be adopted, to standardize the procedures for intervention and communications between UNIFIL contingents, local operators and the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF ).

Furthermore, the participants immediately verified the practical aspect of the intervention, simulating various scenarios and using all the possible equipment and extinguishing materials, also exploring the aspect of possible interventions by helicopters, thanks to the collaboration of Task Force instructors Italair, Italian flight department of the UNIFIL mission.

The course is part of the broader support program for the Lebanese armed forces and local institutions, the main task assigned to UNIFIL by the UN 1701 Resolution together with the monitoring of the cessation of hostilities.
